My Hair Secrets

Happy New Year Everyone!

Haircare is so important to your everyday beauty routine so I thought I'd dedicate the first post of the New Year to discussing my favourite products and go-to hair essentials.

Shampoo and Conditioner
Over the years, I've tried so many different shampoos from more premium brands to cheaper high-street alternatives and despite the fact it has taken me 23 years to reach this conclusion, I think that I receive better results from high-street/ drugstore shampoos. Call me crazy but could it be that they over complicate the product? Too many fancy ingredients that end up doing the opposite of what they say? This is what I believe to be true. To put it this way, I'm still waiting to find my expensive 'Knight in Shining Armer' shampoo to revolutionise my haircare routine. Until this day I will stay true to my drugstore roots.

I have to admit, my ultimate shampoo and conditioner savour has to be the, L'Oreal Elvive collection, it's the one and only brand I keep returning to. All the varieties have great thickening power, and leaves the hair feeling thoroughly clean and smelling gorgeous. They certainly tick all of my shampoo must-have boxes from shine to smoothness. If you haven't already - you need to try this product. At the moment I am using the Extraordinary Oil one, which I thoroughly suggest! Available at any drug store or super market.

Oils
I have been using hair oils for a while, usually a different variety of Argan oils and frizz-proofing products. Last year I was brought the L'Oreal Mythic Oil and have been using it ever since. It's great to use on damp hair after each wash, it leaves the hair feeling really nourished and replenished with its Avocado and Grape Seed oil recipe.

It's truly one of my favourite ever hair products and it gives a perfect finish to your hair without the greasy texture that you sometimes get with oils. I have to say, no haircare routine is complete without it. You can find the oil online and in some hairdressers.

Words of hair wisdom
Over the years, I have had my fair share of hair faux pas, from hair colour to shocking cuts and I think I've acquired some wisdom along the way.

My first rule: always use heat protection. This is one step you simply cannot miss out. If you use a lot of heat on your hair, like I do, it is so important to protect your hair as it can cause damage and breakages.

My second rule: do a hair mask once a month. Whether this is a home-made one or a shop-brought one, these are really great for your hair, replenishing it with all it needs. A must-have for thick, luscious hair.

My hair secret...
Want to know my big secret? I only wash my hair once a week - usually a Saturday or Sunday. I truly believe this to be one of the most important factors for healthy hair. Stretching your hair between washes is hard but with a little bit of dry shampoo (Batiste, £2.99) and some stylish up-dos, you can make it work.

I'd love to know what you think of these or if you have any hair secrets. Tweet me @NCampopiano.
